Day 1 Arrival, Culture & Canopy Walk

Morning: Land in Kigali and be greeted by your guide. 

Visit the King’s Palace Museum in Nyanza, gaining insight into Rwanda’s royal history and its famed “Inyambo” cows. (Optional)

Midday: Embark on a scenic 3 - 3.5 hour drive to Nyungwe Forest, passing lush hills and rural communities. Arrive around early afternoon and check in at your lodge 

Afternoon: Enjoy Igishigishigi Trail and Canopy Walk from the Uwinka Visitor Center (1.5 - 3 h including hike). 

The 160 m suspended walkway offers panoramic views of the rainforest and opportunities to spot colobus monkeys, mangabeys, turacos and more.

Evening: Return to your lodge, have dinner and relax amidst the forest surroundings.
Stay: Overnight at your chosen lodge near the park.

Day 2 Chimpanzee Trekking & Return to Kigali

Pre‑dawn: Rise around 4:30 - 5:00 AM. Have breakfast early and head to the briefing point at Uwinka or Gisakura park office (5:00 or 5:30 AM)

Chimpanzee Trekking: After registration and rules briefing, start your tracking led by a ranger and experienced tracker. Trek can last 2 - 6 hours depending on chimp movements. 

When found, you’ll observe the group for up to one hour, witnessing feeding, social behavior, and play in their natural habitat.
Midday: Head back, enjoy lunch at the lodge or en route.
Afternoon: Drive back to Kigali (about 4 - 5 h), with optional stops along the way (e.g. local viewpoints, shopping). Arrive in Kigali by late afternoon for drop‑off or onward flights.
